Twenty is the whole list. Not twenty featured, not twenty this season with more behind a login. When you book a trip to one of twenty places through this desk, you are choosing from everything Driftwood Chronicle Bookings LLC sells, and the number is small on purpose. Nothing is charged here and no card is held at any point: the request comes in, and the booking is arranged with the company that runs the trip.
The reason is the thing we claim to know. Where these trips go and how far in they sit is not a detail you can look up once and file. A dock moves half a mile down the shore and the boat leaves from a different place. A forest road washes out in April and the last parking lot becomes a pullout two switchbacks lower. A lodge that used to meet the ferry stops meeting the ferry. None of that shows up in a brochure, and none of it shows up in a database of forty thousand properties. It shows up because somebody at this desk called the operating company in February and asked, and called again in June because February was five months ago.
A long list looks generous and is not. It means nobody has stood at the trailhead. We would rather sell you one of twenty places and be able to tell you, before you pay anything, how many minutes you will be carrying your own bag and over what surface.
The five steps run in order. At-the-door means the road reaches the door and the car stops where you sleep. Ten-minutes means ten minutes on foot from the last parking place. An-hour means an hour on foot, and you carry what you brought, once, each way. Half-a-day means four or five hours in on foot or by boat, and arrival day is spent arriving. No-road means no road at all, and arrival runs on a timetable that weather closes. The step is printed on every trip, in the tiles below and again on the trip page itself, before any price.

The place you want is probably not on this list
Most weeks somebody writes in about a place we do not sell. That is the expected outcome of a list this short, and the answer is the same every time: we say so.
What we do not do is say yes and go looking. Anyone can find a property and forward an inquiry. The value of this desk is the last mile, and on a place we have not worked we would be reading the same page you are. Selling that as expertise would be a lie with a price attached.
So the reply names one of two things. Either there is a trip on the list that sits at the same step and does something similar, in which case we send the step, the price and what the walk in is actually like, and you decide. Or there is not, and we say there is not, and we say who does that kind of work if we happen to know. No fee either way. The traveler pays this office nothing at any point. We are paid a commission by the operating company after travel has happened, which is also why an honest no costs us nothing to give.
If you want the list to grow, the useful thing to send is the step rather than the place. Somebody who writes and says they want an-hour, two adults, late September, water they can swim in, is describing a problem we can work on. Somebody who names a specific bay in a specific country is describing an inventory question, and our inventory is twenty.
Four things you will not find on any of these twenty pages
- Whether a place is safe
- We do not rate any destination as safe or unsafe, and we do not tell you whether a walk is within your ability. Conditions change, bodies differ, and neither is ours to judge. We describe the distance, the surface and the timetable, and you decide.
- Papers at a border
- We do not advise on visas, passports or entry rules, and we do not check documents. Those questions go to the issuing authority for the country you are entering and to your own government.
- Cover for a trip
- We do not sell, arrange, recommend or comment on any form of trip cover. If you want it, it comes from somewhere else entirely, and we take no part in choosing it.
- Which company runs it
- Every trip here is operated by an independent company. Driftwood Chronicle Bookings LLC arranges and does not operate anything: no lodge, no boat, no vehicle, no guide. We name the operating company in the written proposal that goes to you, not on a public page.
Send the step and the dates
Tell us which of the five steps you want, how many people, and roughly when. That is enough for a first reply, and a first reply comes back the same working day the message is read. A written figure with the trip named, what is in it and what is not, takes read the same working day. Every price on this site is a from figure per person and is confirmed in writing before anything is held.
